About

I’m Megan, a digital marketing professional who specialises in engaging audiences through online channels – in particular, website and email, though I’m not scared to get involved in social media too! I’m not a developer, but I can build websites from scratch in content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress and emails in specialist platforms such as Mailchimp, leaving you with as much or as little control as required to continue maintenance yourself. I’m new to the freelance world, but have 10 years’ experience working behind the scenes of various organisations, overseeing the strategic and operational management of their websites and leading on segmented email marketing campaigns.

How I can help

My experience

I currently work as Digital Engagement Manager at Garden House Hospice Care, ensuring the Hospice’s digital platforms maximise charitable income, referrals, supporter acquisition, donor retention and stakeholder engagement. My responsibilities lie with maintaining existing and creating new content in the website, working closely with an external development agency to ensure the content is optimised for user experience and accessibility. I use data insights provided by GA4 (Google Analytics) and Google Search Console to improve the site’s performance through understanding supporter journeys and behaviours. Similarly, I manage the charity’s email marketing activity, using data and user behaviour to build segmented campaigns and improve acquisition, engagement and retention.

Prior to this, I worked in the e-commerce world for a few years. I started at a former online pet brand as a listing assistant, copywriting SEO-friendly product descriptions and managing categories and filters to ensure a smooth customer experience. A little over a year later, I entered the world of email marketing for a B2B retailer. Before joining, their campaigns were pretty much a free-for-all, sending the same, untailored message to each of their customers. It was pretty unsuccessful to say the least, but within two years I’d developed a brand new strategy, manipulating data to send out targeted communications cross-selling relevant products and services. With a 181% increase in revenue from marketing emails, the results spoke for themselves!

I moved across to the charity sector in 2022, still wanting to make the most of my digital marketing and engagement knowledge, but, perhaps most importantly, wanting to make a difference. I studied Philosophy at university (graduating in 2015) and completed a volunteer placement at a township in South Africa straight after, so that philanthropic side of me has always been prevalent. More than 10 years on, I can genuinely say I love doing what I do. That’s why I wanted to start freelance work and help others achieve their online goals too – not much makes me happier than dorking out over building a website or segmenting email data… except when I’m receiving cuddles from my cat, Dorcas. But I’ve waffled enough already, so I won’t start talking about my love for her or you’ll be reading all day!
